Removing The Idols In Your Heart

Updated: Apr 25, 2022

Do you want an intimate relationship with God. Of course you do. You wouldn't be reading the post if you didn't. My mission with this blog is to encourage you to develop a closer relationship with God. Okay, now that we have that out the way and established. Let's talk about what is hindering you from you doing that.

The number one hinderance from drawing you closer to God is....

The idols that you worship in your heart. Yes, that's right! Your idol worshiping is keeping from your developing a deeper relationship from God. In fact, it is keeping you from God period. In Ezekiel 14:3, the Lord says that people who worship idols in their hearts shouldn't ask Him for anything.

The Greek word for idol is eidólon, which means false God. Anything we prioritize and worship in our hearts above God is a false god in God's eyesight. An idol can be anything or anyone we want more than God. Idols can be lovers, family members, money jobs, celebrities' hobbies, cars, social media, houses, food, drugs, sex, or goals. Whatever consumes our mind and time more than God is an idol.

Now that you truly understand what an idol is, not the traditional carved image god that most people think of when they hear the word idol, do you have any idols in your heart?

In Ezekiel 14:6-7 God says, "Repent and destroy your idols, and stop worshiping them in your hearts. I the Lord will personally punish everyone, whether people of Israel or the foreigners living among you, who rejects me for idols and then comes to a prophet to ask for my help and advice."

God wants us to repent and destroy our idols. Now obviously, somethings and people we cannot physically destroy, but we can stop worshiping them in our hearts (putting them above God) and disconnect ourselves from them. Secondly, God gives us a direct instruction and warning in that scripture. He says do not ask a prophet for His help or in my translation, don't ask a prophet to give you a prophecy if you know are worshiping idols in your heart. God clearly states if you do, He will punish you.

God is basically saying don't ask Him for NOTHING, not even His prophets, if you are worshiping false gods in your heart. You know how us Christians have a prophecy addiction! To be transparent and honest, I have some idols in my heart. So yeah, I got some repenting to do, and I am sure you do too.

Lately, my blog posts have been a bit harsh. But again, my mission with this blog is to encourage and equip you in developing a more intimate relationship with God. One of the ways I have to do this is to prick your heart. God wants me to let you know TODAY that your idol worship is keep you away from Him and stopping Him from answering our prayers.

Don't know or think you have idols in your heart? Pray this simple prayer:

Heavenly Father, please reveal to me if I have set up any idols in my heart or embraced things that have led me into sin, knowingly or unknowingly. Lord, I confess and repent of worshiping these idols in my heart (verbally confess and repent all idols). Please forgive me of my idol worship, sins, and transgressions. I renounce and come out of agreement with these sins and transgressions (again, verbally confess specific sins and transgressions).

Lord, create in me a clean heart and renew the Holy Spirit within me. Wash me in the blood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Wash my mind, body, soul, spirit, and heart.

Pray this prayer with all sincerity!

I pray this post blessed you. If it did, please share it on your social media platforms! And let me know what you think. I would love to hear your thoughts!
