On yesterday, I rested. I was a lazy bum. I cooked dinner, did a little cleaning and laundry, but outside of that I did absolutely nothing productive-outside of writing this post. Now I did read the Word and pray, but I don't count that because as men and women of God that should be a part of our daily spiritual regimen. Something we should never neglect. Yet, sometimes I do. Okay, let me stop rambling and get back to the message! The point I am trying to make is I rested. Something I rarely do, but desperately need to do more often. Rest is something we often take for granted. In this cultural phenomenon of being a "Boss" and the "Grind No Sleep Movement" we have forgotten to take a break and rest our souls, bodies, minds and spirits. As much as I love motivational speaker Eric Thomas or ET, The Hip Hop Preacher, his philosophy of "no sleep" is unbiblical. God wants us to get sleep. The bible says in Psalm 127:2, "It is senseless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, fearing you will starve to death; for God wants his loved ones to get their proper rest." This whole notion to you have to be constantly be on the grind so you can outdo your competitors and stay on top is not a Kingdom Entrepreneur principle.
Yes, to be successful as an entrepreneur or anything in life you have to put in that work! I get it. I consider myself a Christian Girl Boss. Yet, I also understand that I have to rest because there is only so much physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual gas my body can carry at one time. When your gas gets low you need a refill! You need to rest.
Jesus, our Lord and Savior, and who we should be daily following and striving to be like, took breaks. Even Jesus rested! He didn't minister, heal, deliver, cast, and fellowship with people every second of the moment or every day. Some days He rested. It is noted several times throughout the New Testament that Jesus would often withdraw from people, and go by Himself and rest and pray.
Here a few scriptures to prove that,
“[Despite Jesus’ plea that his miracles be kept secret] the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” (Luke 5:15-16; see also Mark 1:45) “Because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, [Jesus] said to [his disciples], ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’ So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.” (Mark 6:31-32) And when day came, He departed to a lonely place; and the multitudes were searching for Him, and came to Him, and tried to keep Him from going away from them. ( Luke 4:42)
Get it?! If Jesus realized His need for constant rest, so should you rest. Don't get so caught up in the world's system that you have to be constantly be working or busy that you burn yourself out. I have been guilty several nights of staying up late and burning the midnight oil. But the next day I was cranky and tired. Yeah, I may have completed a project or task, but I also deleted my mental, physical, spiritual energy.
My beloveds, our ABBA Daddy wants us to rest. Forget get all this grind nonstop foolishness. If your body and mind is telling you to rest, rest! And learn how to go to bed at night at a decent hour! I highly recommend you get 6 hours of sleep every night. Now as an entrepreneur, I know that won't always be possible. But understand it is God who gives you the ability to get wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18). So you don't have to depend on yourself to make everything happen. Keep an active prayer life with Him and He will lead you in the way you should profit (Isaiah 48:17). So love, you can rest. Even Jesus rested, should you. REST! I pray this blog blessed you!
